Why John Adams?
John Adams was a leading founding father and President of the United States. His early works on republican government guided his work writing the Massachusetts Constitution, which influenced the United States Constitution. He was an early and zealous advocate for independence, he assisted Thomas Jefferson writing the Declaration of Independence, and later negotiated peace with Great Britain. He is noted for having nominated George Washington to be commander-in-chief of the revolutionary army and later for the nomination of John Marshall to be the first and highly influential Chief Justice of the United States.
Yes, John Adams was a remarkable man. He embodies much of what John Adams High School is all about: academics and character. John Adams was well educated, and he used his education to influence and shape his world into a better place. We want our students to do the same.
“Let us tenderly and kindly cherish therefore, the means of knowledge. Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write.”
– John Adams
